Technical Requirements

The folders below will provide answers on technical questions.

Hardware

Since the University requires Logos Bible Software for all degree students, the requirements to effectively run this software are also the basis for working in the classroom.

[Note that your computer will run Logos 4 with the minimum requirements listed below, however it will be sluggish. The recommended requirements are the preferred specifications for it to run well.]

The minimum requirements for running Logos 4 on a PC are:

  • Pentium 4 processor
  • 1 GB RAM DRAM
  • Windows XP SP3
  • DVD drive (only necessary if you ordered the disc package)
  • 12 GB hard drive space on local drive (May require additional space depending on your library)
  • 1024X768 or 1366X768 pixel resolution display
  • 128 MB DirectX 9 graphics device
  • Internet connection required for activation
The recommended requirements for running Logos 4 on a PC are:
  • Core2 Duo processor
  • 3 GB RAM DRAM
  • Windows Vista Or Windows 7 (note: Win XP SP3 is just fine here with 2GB of DRAM)
  • DVD drive (only necessary if you ordered the disc package)
  • 512MB DirectX9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
  • 20 GB hard drive space on local drive (May require additional space depending on your library)
  • Broadband internet connection

Note: Logos does say that Logos 4 will run on a netbook PC computer that meets the minimum requirements above, however, consider the performance on such a computer may not be satisfactory.

Final recommended requirements for running Logos 4 on a Mac have not been established. For now, we recommend:
  • Mac OS X 10.6 or later
  • Intel only (PowerPC not supported)
  • 1.5 GB RAM
  • 8 GB hard drive space

Note: Logos Bible Software 4 for Mac is currently a pre-release Alpha. We do not recommend purchasing and installing the Mac version at this time. Later in 2010 the product should be completed enough to consider it.

All configurations require a DVD drive and broadband Internet connection. An Internet connection for streaming video (384 Kb/second download speed minimum). Internet Explorer 7 or 8 (note that you may use other browsers for general use, but Logos requires IE to be installed to function properly).

Note: A public computer with Internet access such as those found at public libraries may be acceptable for working in the classroom site; however, the ability to move files onto and off of the computer's hard drive is required. Using such a computer may not allow you to compose required assignments in Microsoft Word.

Software

General Classroom Use:

Specific Software Required:

  • Logos 4 Bible Software Scholar’s edition is required for degree students. Students who do not own Logos 4 should wait to purchase until they take GS302/502 Computerized Bible Studies course.
  • EndNote X3 student version is required for most students for research and bibliographies.

Communications:

Students who do not own Personal e-mail account with at least 5 MB capacity. We recommend using a private account provided by your Internet service provider and not a public account such as Yahoo!, Gmail, Hotmail, et cetera.

The capability to receive and send faxes is optional but may be required for language classes.
