Master of Arts Degree in Biblical and Pastoral Studies

The Master of Arts Degree in Biblical and Pastoral Studies is focused on ministry training. 

The goal of the Master of Arts Degree in Biblical and Pastoral Studies is to equip the student for the continued study, application, and ministering of the Word of God. Key studies include Biblical languages, Biblical research, an overview of the Old Testament and New Testament, history of the church, theology, preaching and teaching, spiritual counsel, spiritual life, leadership and administration, church growth, and mentored pastoral experience.

 

Degree Purposes

The Master of Arts Degree program seeks to:

  • Provide students with a Biblical, doctrinal, historical, practical, and personal foundation for ministry (from a "Spirit-filled" perspective).
  • Develop research and analytical skills necessary for the ministry and for ongoing Biblical studies.
  • Develop communication skills necessary for the ministry.
  • Assist students in developing a Biblical worldview and lifestyle.
  • Develop a commitment to lifelong learning, growth, and ministry.

Degree Learning Outcomes

Through a study of foundational Biblical and ministry studies, Biblical languages, research and communication skills, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of authorship, historical background, structure and themes of the books of the Bible.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of church history and basic doctrines (from a Spirit-filled perspective).
  • Study the Bible using inductive methods.
  • Perform effective research and exegetical analysis of Scripture using sound hermeneutical principles.
  • Use original language tools to exegete passages of Scripture.
  • Communicate the Scripture with clarity and conviction.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and competency to perform the basic tasks of ministry – church planting, salvation, healing, counsel, teaching, leadership, and administration.
  • Apply scriptural truths and principles in areas of ministry.
  • Articulate a Christian worldview and lifestyle.
  • Demonstrate a lifelong commitment to learning, spiritual development, and ministry.

Number of Units Necessary to Earn Master of Arts Degree

The Master of Arts Degree in Biblical and Pastoral Studies is a two year program consisting of 66 units. Up to 15 units may be transferred in toward the degree requirements for applicable Biblical studies courses.

Graduation Requirements

To graduate with the Master of Arts Degree in Biblical and Pastoral Studies the student will:

  • Complete the minimum number of units required.
  • Complete the courses in the degree program.
  • Earn a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
  • Satisfy any residency/on-campus requirements.
  • Fulfill any outstanding school financial obligations.
