General Information

The goal of Shiloh University curriculum is to produce in the student a personal relationship with God, and a true knowledge of the Bible, His Word.

The focus of the curriculum is on Biblical studies, theological studies, and ministry studies.

University curriculum offers the student opportunity to:

Biblical Worldview

Shiloh University curriculum is designed to provide opportunity for the students to take their acquired knowledge, analytical and reflective skills, and form a solid Biblical worldview.

It is important for students to develop a Biblical worldview from creation to the current day. This worldview should provide the framework for perceiving the working of God in humanity through history, and enable the student to perceive God’s moving in the world today. With this, students will be able to become effective instruments of Christ to their communities and cultures.

Typical Course Formats

Courses are offered over three fifteen-week sessions each year (see academic calendar). All courses are online and can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection (see technical requirements).

Typically, each course will have a syllabus, course introduction with study tips, weekly lessons, assignments, class discussions and exams. In addition to what is provided in the online classroom, the student will purchase textbooks and other materials as required for each course.

Other Course Formats

Shiloh University courses are supplemented by courses developed by the Institute of Theological Studies and by Knowledge Elements Education Network.

The Institute of Theological Studies (ITS) provides quality Biblical studies courses to many Bible schools and seminaries. For these courses, additional materials will be sent to the student by Shiloh University in electronic format. This will include audio lectures, lecture notes, and other study items necessary for the course. The course catalog identifies these courses as 'ITS.'

Some of the university's undergraduate general education courses are provided by Knowledge Elements Educational Network (KEEN). Knowledge Elements provides courses to many other Bible colleges throughout the United States. These courses will have their own, simple to use, online interface. The course catalog identifies these courses as 'KEEN.'

Programs of Study

Ministry Training Programs
There are three programs of study for ministry training. One is an undergraduate program and two are graduate programs.

  • Bachelor of Arts in Biblical and Pastoral Studies
  • Master of Arts in Biblical and Pastoral Studies
  • Master of Divinity

Students may select the program that best fits their educational background, time constraints, and further educational or vocational needs. The same basic core courses are included in each of these ministry training programs. Masters courses contain additional written assignments commensurate with graduate level studies. Please see the individual program descriptions.

Biblical and Theological Studies
The Master of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies is designed to take the student deeper into the study of the Bible, Biblical language, and theology. Please see detailed program description.

Personal Enrichment
Individuals may take selected courses for personal enrichment on a credit / no credit basis. There is no structured program of study and courses are typically not transferrable to degree program requirements.

On-campus Requirements

Annual Residency Requirement

An annual residency is promoted for one week each year. Times and locations may be arranged according to the needs of individual students and availability of faculty and staff. The purpose is for students to have a personal connection, a time to meet with school faculty and leadership, an opportunity to meet other students, and to receive an impartation of the University’s philosophy of education and worldview. The annual residency activities may include lectures, fellowship, discussion, worship, and study.

Mentored Pastoral Experience

Ministry training programs have a required 3-unit mentored pastoral ministry experience. The time and location will be determined according to the needs of the individual student, approved mentor, and faculty availability. The Shiloh Church, in conjunction with Shiloh University, is an available location for ministry training programs. Other Living Word Fellowship churches and affiliated churches in various locations may also provide facilities for training.
