Degrees and Programs

Shiloh University Curriculum

The goal of Shiloh University curriculum is to produce in the student a personal relationship with God, and a true knowledge of the Bible, His Word.

The focus of the curriculum is on biblical studies, theological studies, and ministry studies.

University curriculum offers the student opportunity to:

  • Learn how to effectively study the Word of God.
  • Learn, understand, and apply its truths.
  • Learn to convey those truths to others.
  • Become more equipped in their personal spiritual formation.
  • Find and expand their potential in Christ.
  •

Biblical Worldview

Shiloh University curriculum is designed to provide opportunity for the students to take their acquired knowledge, analytical and reflective skills, and form a solid biblical worldview.

It is important for students to develop a biblical worldview from creation to the current day. This worldview should provide the framework for perceiving the working of God in humanity through history, and enable the student to perceive God’s moving in the world today. With this, students will be able to become effective instruments of Christ to their communities and cultures.

Typical Course Formats

Courses are offered over three fifteen-week sessions each year (see academic calendar). All courses are online and can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection (see technical requirements).

Typically, each course will have a syllabus, course introduction with study tips, weekly lessons, assignments, class discussions, and exams. In addition to what is provided in the online classroom, the student will purchase textbooks and other materials as required for each course.

Other Course Formats

Shiloh University courses are supplemented by courses developed by the Institute of Theological Studies and by courses provided through Global University.

The Institute of Theological Studies (ITS) provides quality biblical studies courses to many Bible schools and seminaries. For these courses, additional materials will be sent to the student by Shiloh University in electronic format. This will include audio lectures, lecture notes, and other study items necessary for the course. The course catalog identifies these courses as ‘ITS.’

Some of the University’s undergraduate general education courses are provided through Global University. Global University is an accredited Bible College and Seminary with distance courses. Shiloh University has an articulation agreement with Global University where certain courses taken with Global are transferrable to satisfy the undergraduate program requirements. Bachelor students will apply to Global University in order to take the following courses:

Programs of Study

Ministry Training Degree Programs
There are three programs of study for ministry training. One is an undergraduate program and two are graduate programs.

  • Bachelor of Arts in Biblical and Pastoral Studies
  • Master of Arts in Biblical and Pastoral Studies
  • Master of Divinity

These three degree programs consist of the same core courses. Each degree has a common core of degree aims and learning outcomes that the founders of Shiloh University believe are essential foundations for ministry as well as additional degree aims and outcomes that more specifically define the benefits and goals of each program. Providing these three ministry training programs allows students to select the degree program that best fits their educational background, time constraints, and further educational or vocational needs.

Since the same basic core courses are included in each of these three ministry training programs, students who graduate from one of these three ministry training programs may not enroll in either of the other two programs. Bachelor of Arts students should contact the University and speak to an advisor regarding their future educational plans. The University staff can recommend additional programs to continue their education and training.

Mentored Ministry Experience
Ministry training programs have a required 3-unit Mentored Ministry Experience course. The time and location will be determined according to the needs of the individual student, approved mentor, and faculty availability. The Shiloh Church, in conjunction with Shiloh University, is an available location for ministry training programs. Other Living Word Fellowship churches and the student’s own local church may also provide facilities for training.

Annual Residency
Shiloh University does not have an annual residency requirement.

Personal Enrichment
Individuals may take selected courses for personal enrichment on a credit / no credit basis. There is no structured program of study and courses are typically not transferrable to degree program requirements.

Library and Research Resources

Logos Bible Software
All degree students are required to own the Logos Bible Software 4 "Scholars Library" package (or higher). This resource contains 43 Bibles and interlinears, 67 commentaries, 27 Bible introductions and surveys, 38 original language grammars and tools, and over 300 other valuable resources. The retail cost for this digital library is $625.95. Shiloh University students receive a 25% discount on the initial purchase of this or other Logos libraries. After acceptance as a degree student, new students will have access to a student discount order page through the Logos website. There are larger Logos packages available (see products at http://www.logos.com/basepackages), however, Shiloh University recommends purchasing the "Scholar’s Library" as the base package. The student can then add additional resources to build their library through promotions and community pricing offers.

It is not necessary to purchase this software before registering for GS302/502 Computerized Bible Study; however students may purchase this earlier if they wish. Some course materials for other courses may be available as Logos digital resources.

E-book Collections from The Living Word
Another required resource for both research and coursework is the Living Word E-book collections including the following products:

  • This Week Library eBook
  • The First Principles eBook
  • Living Word Digital Library (Collections I-IV)

These collections contain over 1,800 messages and Bible studies from John Robert Stevens, M.Div., Th.D. These messages contain a wide range of theological topics and scriptural studies. The retail price for these collections is $449.75. Shiloh University degree students receive a 50% discount on the purchase of these resources. After acceptance as a degree student, new students will be able to order these collections from Living Word Publications. These collections are compatible with Logos Bible Software and Libronix e-books. You can find a listing of these resources at the following link. To receive the applicable discount call Living Word Publications directly at (818) 983-1523. http://www.thelivingword.org/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=LWBK&Category_Code=eBooks-by-John-Robert-Stevens.

Degree students should order these collections from Living Word Publications prior to the start of their first term with Shiloh University.
