Master's Programs
Students submit the following:
- Completed application form
- Essay
- References from:
- Pastor
- Church member
- College professor – if recent graduate (within past year)
- All College Transcripts (including undergraduate and graduate work)
Prerequisites:
- Bachelor’s Degree or educational equivalent from an accredited school is normally required (exceptions may be evaluated on a case-by-case basis)
- Grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 on undergraduate work
Transfer of Credits:
- Up to one fourth of the degree may be made up of transfer credits from an accredited Master of Arts program in Biblical Studies. Transfer credits will be evaluated by the academic department.
Advanced Bible Placement:
- For Master’s students who received their Bachelor of Arts Degree at Shiloh University, up to 15 units toward the Master of Arts Degree may be awarded for biblical studies courses taken at the bachelor level.
- For Master’s students who received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biblical Studies from another accredited Bible College, up to 15 semester units toward the Master of Arts Degree may be awarded for biblical studies courses taken at the bachelor level.
- All Advance Bible Placement units will be evaluated by the academic department.
Exception to prerequisites:
- A Master's Degree from an accredited school will substitute for a Bachelor's Degree.
- Special Student (does not have a Bachelor's Degree) – a limited number of special students may be admitted.
- High school degree or General Education Development (GED) test.
- Additional reference from church / denominational leadership.
- At least twelve years of work experience – detailed resume provided.
- 5 years of full-time ministry experience (or ten years part-time), and actively engaged in church leadership role – detailed ministry history provided.
- 500 word essay about applicant’s rationale for pursuing the graduate degree instead of the undergraduate degree.
- Either 30 semester units (hours) of undergraduate courses from an accredited school with a minimum GPA of 2.75, or passing score on GRE verbal and analytical sections. Passing score for the verbal section is 500. Passing score for the analytical is 4. Note that the GRE may be required even if the applicant has 30 semester hours of undergraduate courses.
- 30 semester hours of undergraduate studies should be in the following areas:
- Required:
- English / Communication – writing (3 units)
- English / Communication – speech (3 units)
- Combination of:
- History / Cultures (3 to 9 units)
- Humanities / Language (6 to 12 units)
- Social Science (3 to 9 units)
- Mathematics & Science (3 to 6 units)
- The entire admissions portfolio will be evaluated by Shiloh University. Applicants are encouraged to submit any additional materials in support of their application.
Probationary Student:
- If a student has not met the academic GPA prerequisites, but shows a strong indication of success in the Master’s program, they will be placed on academic probation. The student will be on academic probation for the first 15 units and must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average in all classes during the probationary period.
GRE (Graduate Record Examination):
- Prospective students who need to take the GRE exam in order to apply to Shiloh University can obtain information about the GRE at www.ets.org/gre/.
English Language Requirement (Test of English as a Foreign Language):
- Prospective students who are not native English language speakers are required to demonstrate proficiency in the English language by submitting satisfactory TOEFL scores. The minimum computer based score is 280 for Master’s students. Information about the TOEFL test can be found at www.ets.org/toefl/.
Transcript Evaluation for Foreign Students:
- Foreign students will need to work with the WES (World Education Services) to have their educational experience evaluated. Evaluations are to be sent from WES to Shiloh University. See World Education Services website at www.wes.org.
Master of Divinity Program
Prerequisites and Requirements
- See prerequisites and requirements for Master of Arts program (see above).
Transfer of Credits
- Up to one fourth of the degree may be made up of transfer credits from an accredited graduate program
Advanced Bible Placement
- For Master of Divinity students who received their Bachelor of Arts Degree at Shiloh University, up to 15 units toward the Master of Divinity degree may be awarded for biblical courses taken at the bachelor level.
- For Master’s students who received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biblical Studies from another accredited Bible College, up to 15 semester units toward the Master of Divinity degree may be awarded for biblical studies courses taken at the bachelor level.
- For Master of Divinity students who received their Master of Arts degree at Shiloh University, up to 60 units toward the Master of Divinity degree may be awarded. This should be done within three of years from earning the Master of Arts Degree. For Master of Divinity students who received their Master of Arts degree at another accredited school, up to 60 semester units toward the Master of Divinity degree may be awarded.
- All Advance Bible Placement units will be evaluated by the academic department.
